It’s called respecting your elders and especially a parental figure like your spouse‘s parent. Even if they are being immature and unreasonable it’s classy and respectful to refrain from retaliating. This kind of behavior is why we have students torturing their teachers and all sorts of other ridiculous behavior in society, where manners and dignity seem to have gone out the window.
