I completely understand, once I was comped a hotel room by a friend's friend when I was looking for a job and had just arrived in town and he knocked on my door at 11 PM. I was awake but pretended I wasn't, I was freaked out at him being over friendly when I checked in then telling me he'd knock sometime in the evening. Didn't know what to say and refused to stay a second night, even though it was free. Spent my remaining savings on temp housing instead and luckily got a job within a few weeks.
